Dewalt 20v cordless hedge trimmer11/9/2023 ![]() The DeWalt pole trimmer delivers ease of use and a wide variety of battery sizes as well. Having a property with 6&8’ hedges the use of a ladder was the norm. After tiring of constant extension cord issues and limited reach of a traditional hedge trimmer, I chose give this 20v product a try. I would absolutely recommend this purchase. Using the shoulder strap will drastically increase the usability of the trimmer. This tool with the 20v 5ah will go the distance. ![]() I was tired of cutting long before the battery was even half gone. With all the power this tool has I thought I would be changing batteries a lot or upgrading to the 60v 9ah but this was not the case. This task is a struggle for some of the most powerful string trimmers. The trimmer's power and razor sharp blade cut through all the stalks without fail. Adjusting the cutting is simple and easy to do as your terrain and target changes. The adjustable head allows for perfect level cutting with the ground level. The trimmers extend the perfect distance to get the the base of each plant without getting pricked by thorns. I planned on using these trimmers to keep my honeysuckles at bay but discovered a better application with trimming my sticker bush problem. For me the pole hedge trimmers are the perfect tool for trimming and I have no hedges. For what I paid for it, I don't mind doing some tinkering to see if I can improve things, but I would have gladly paid $50 more for a tool that had more metal and less plastic at that critical joint, and a better grip for the front hand while using it. I'm either going to have to engineer a way to lock it in the position I most often use, or tear it apart and see if the pin & hinge can be made stronger. After about 12 hours of run time, it's now no longer staying at the angle I set during normal use, which is both annoying, and potentially a safety issue. The weak point of the unit though is definitely the hinge that allows the head to change angle. I sometimes hook the strap through this new handle for better support so I can give my arms a rest. I ended up engineering a T-handle out of a wood dowel and an old bicycle stem, and having this for my left hand made it a lot easier to control. The place I wanted to put my hand was also the barrel screw that held the two parts of the trimmer together, so I kept accidentally unscrewing it as I trimmed. I initially had a lot of problems with it twisting laterally while I was cutting. The ergonomics and balance are a bit off though. ![]() The blade has stayed sharp (very sharp!). The motor, blade and battery are excellent, and it will easily cut through brush up to an in inch thick (though I usually take care of stuff that size with loppers). I'm using this tool to trim things like multiflora rose and honeysuckle along a trail near my house.
